I think I figured out a way to truly mangle the venerable Me-109: crosskit it with the equally venerable Avro 504! Here's step one - major surgery on the engines. The job went fairly quickly due to the softness of Airfix plastic and a lot of job-related angst! When I was done, the knife blade I used was too hot to touch! I also sanded back the wing roots on the 109 so it would look better against the Avro 504 wings. I haven't decided yet if I'll be cutting back the Avro wings and I'm tempted to replace or modify the horseshoe-shaped cowling prior to mating it with the 109.

Intriguing as all hell.
Please keep the in-progress pics coming.

Cutting, cutting, cutting...
Styrene in my blood and an impressive void in my cranium.

Here's another progress report. I worked on the 109 biplane part of this tonight. I've worked over the fuse and the wings and tail a little. I decided to use a bit from an old pen as the cowling (it's the clear-ish part on the left). Probably won't get much more done until Saturday or Sunday because I'm going to the local IPMS meeting tomorrow night after work.

After what Wolfik and Mr Howling Mouse and Sentinel Chicken and Eddie have shared lately I'm almost embarassed to post this, but here it is...

Don't be! You too are a master of the art!

Continue! Glue! Putty! Sand! Post! Sand some more! Post!

If it weren't for you Bri I'd look at the Lockheed Vega and say "Gee, I wish I could have one of those in 1:144 but it's impossible".

DO NOT BE INTIMIDATED! BUILD! POST! PUTTY! SAND! POST AGAIN!

Here's the latest update. I finished the engine and cowling. The engine is an old wheel from the spares box painted gunmetal. Once the prop is attached I don't think much of it will show. I also scratched the landing gear using more spare wheels and sprue. I made the spats with Squadron white putty coated with CA to help fill any imperfections. I tried smash-u-forming spatted gear but didn't get very good results. Tonight I paint the undersurfaces!

P.S. On the left you can see how I modified the 504 prop by attaching a 1/144 spinner to it. I'm debating whether to cut it back a little.

Here's a close-up shot of the engine and cowling and undercarriage. You can see putty where I removed the 109 G's gun bulges. If you ever try to modify the Airfix 109 G-6, don't remove these bulges or you'll get a nice hole in the fuse which is a devil to fill!

Get this Cheese to sick bay!

OK so what do we have here ? Could it be the missing Anthony Fokker design from the early 30's ? Or is it the rumoured Platz "super" scout due to enter German service in 1919 ?  B)

Love 'em Brian

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Well the backstory depends on which markings I end out going with...either Swedish or Transylvanian, but it involves a stolen peek at preliminary Bf-109 fuse design work. The idea was that this bird was developed to take on the Gloster Gladiator.  ^_^

I knew it reminded me of something when I first saw it and I've suddenly remembered. It looks almost Nuieport-ish Brian. Something to do with the radial shape and the extreme forward position of the wing.

So a Nuieport Bebe II in Transylvanian service ?
