Here's the latest update. As you can see, I added the guns, and canopy and prop and finished up painting and decaling this bird. Today I was finally able to get that bottle of green open (had to bust the lid and find a new jar) but nothing else would've looked as right to me next to that dark gray (which Tamiya in their wisdom calls "light gray"). Here's the first shot:

I'm so happy to have finally gotten that bottle of green paint open. I've been trying to get into it for months! I'm sure some of you can relate. I've got some other projects up my sleeve that I want to use it on. Anyway, here's the second shot:

These pics are a little dark, but that green is a nice bright, almost kelley green called European Nato Green I think. I scratchbuilt the guns out of spare sprue bits and the axle from the Avro 504. Here's the third shot:

Speaking of shots, I'm about ready to drink one. I've been fortifying myself with a nice cold beer prior to attaching the top wing, but I think I need something stronger. I forgot to mention that I scratched the little antenna thingy from Avro 504 bits as well. The next pics you see will be the finished bird, top wing attached and rigged. I'm hoping to get this done tomorrow. I ended out using the Swedish markings because of Zac's inspiration and how they fit the backstory (also, they came from the 504). Here's the last shot:

Here's the first of three pics of the completed build. I was bedeviled by gremlins on the final stages so it took me forever to rig it. The backstory is that after a drunken bacchanal during a visit to his inlaws in Sweden in the summer of 1934, Herman Goering accidentally left unguarded preliminary fuselage design work for the Bf-109. The Swedish Air Force, desperate to modernize their fleet siezed on the opportunity. Their original plan was to import Gloster Gladiators from Britain, but after the diplomatic flap caused by the imfamous "green kippers" incident were denied so had to seek designs from elsewhere. The Swedes still believed in the myth of the manoeverability of the biplane over the monoplane, so built this craft with two wings, the upper being of good size for high-altitude performance. They eventually built enough of these interesting craft to equip two fighter wings and were used in that capacity until replaced with Seversky two-place fighters.

Enjoy the pics!

Here's the last pic. I don't know if you can tell, but I had to overpaint the white in the markings on the top wing...by hand. This will teach me to fiddle around with decals I only have one set of. I'm looking forward to having fun with the Avro 504 fuse part of this build.

What a great little build!

I love it in those colors, but oculd easily see it in a red/black racing scheme too!

Very nice!
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

You should say "the worst JMN", the most nasty...
