At last, my Airfix 1/48 Spitfire Vb is finished.  This is an almost whiff, as the paint scheme is subject to controversy : where they all blue?  Two tones of blue?  Were the control in desert colours?    I decided to go the full kit with her, so, here she is, BR301 from 249 Sqn., as flown off Malta by Montrealer Georges Beurling.

Wow Ollie that's gotta be the most gorgeous Spit I've ever seen! I love the paintjob! I'm glad you mentioned something about the color of the control surfaces. At first glance I wondered if they were some kind of new recognition markins a`la the yellow leading edges. That is one awesome build Ollie!

Hi Ollie,

Just a wonderful model and the paint scheme is coollness itself.

Are you a George Screwball Bearling fan too? Pierre Clostermann writes very well about him in his book Flames in the Sky and there is a wonderful page or two in Johnny Johnson's book when Bearling was under his command.

That's probably one of the most striking paint schemes I've seen. Very pleasing to the eye. Excellent job on the Spitfire.  B)

Thanks guys!

Well, since he was born about 20 minutes from where I live, yes I'm a fan.  I'm planning on doing all his Spits, I have two done, I need to do the 2 IXs he flew with the RCAF, plus the one he flew in the RAF before heading to Malta...

And he's the top-scorer Canuck of the War...

Your airbrushing just seems to keep getting better and better, Ollie!

Are those slightly darker patches on the yellow segments caused by overpainting the continuation of the two-tone blue camo underneath or did they intentionally paint the yellow in two tones as well?  Either way, I'm sure you've closely matched subject photos of the real thing.

Very impressive!

Beautiful Spit Ollie
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.
