I just noticed on the Anigrand Web site that both the McDonnell XP-67 AND the Republic XF-12 Rainbow will be coming out in March 06 - in resin and in 1/72.

This is great news!!!  I have waited 30+ years for these, and plan to get at least one of each.

Wes,

And at least this time I have _just_ purchased hard to find / out of production / ubber expensive vacuform / crappy resin versions of the things the day before the Anigrand announcement!

I think I do have a vac of the XP-67 but I know I didn't spend anywhere near as much as I spent on the extremely rare vacuform of the XF-103.  About a month or two after I'd finally snagged one of those rare gems off of eBay I then learned that Anigrand was about to release a far superior resin kit of the thing. /sigh/

I have seen a vac kit of the Rainbow and remember it getting up to the better part of $100 on eBay.  I've not seen one since...

So, having these babies in hand will be sweet.  The Rainbow is just a beautiful looking machine, period.  And the Bat just looks cool!

This is kind of too bad about the XR-12.  CMK is (was?) working on a 1/72 resin kit, which I don't know if they will proceed with.  Their stuff is light years better than Anigrand's.  I tried to get MPM to do it as an injection molded kit, but he didn't think the market was big enough, so CMK decided to do it in resin (same group of guys).

I hope Anigrand gets it right...

I have the 1949 Observers Book of Aircraft (well, OK, I've got them all   ) and that edition shows the Republic Rainbow as an airliner in Pan Am livery. Whatever happened to that idea? Would make a cool looking whiff.

Pan Am had some Rainbows on order, but when the USAF terminated the XF-12, the costs for the civilian version went through the roof, and Pan Am had to terminate as well.  It did not help the case either that a flood of DC-4s (ex C-54s) were on the market at bargain prices.

There be definite WHIFF potential with a civilian version of the Republic Rainbow:

Well the XP-67 is top of my all time wants list and Geoff and Martin can confirm I had a "little moment" when Geoff showed me the news at the Bolton show   Gave Neil Robinson a bit of a laugh as well  :P

Chris
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

yeah it was like watching a kid at christmas LOL

have to admit, both are of interest to me, its about time the rainbow was kitted by a decent producer like Arnould.
I always hope for the best.

The top most picture in sentinel chickens post is the exact one used in the Observers book I was talking about.

With the Rainbow, I will have a companion for my Anigrand F-11.  Too bad neither of these planes were produced; they represent the ultimate in piston engine technology. I recall reading a story on the Rainbow where the Republic test pilot, Lowry Brabban IIRC, noticed that they were cruising in level flight at a speed that was faster than the max permissible diving speed for the P-47.

A good What if scheme would be NMF with artic red, or perhaps flat black with red codes (like my F-11), as it would likely have appeared over N. Korea.

I thought that love would last forever; I was wrong.

The stars are not wanted now; put out every one:
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun;
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the woods:
For nothing now can ever come to any good.
