Here's the first of two in-progress shots of my 1/72 Curtiss P-36 Surfhawk floatplane fighter I'm bashing from the P-40E kit. I swiped the floats from the Airfix Arado 196 and the engine and cowling come from a Fokker DXXI. It's just resting on the floats now, as I still have to paint it prior to final assembly.

Here's the second shot. I'll be finishing this bird in N.E.I. camo and markings. The backstory involves the Netherlands East Indies needing something to counter the much-feared Japanese Rufe floatplane fighter and the folks at Curtiss rising to the challenge. So far I've had a lot of fun with this build. Typical Airfix, but great fodder for whiffery. I hope you enjoy my progress so far.

Very nice Brian, I'll follow your progress on this one closely.

Basic kits are the best fodder for Whatifs.

Looking good Brian. Netherlands East Indies is a good idea or how about Indonesian just after independence ?

Chris
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

The humble Airfix kit provided the basis for the heavily-weathered P-40H Kittiwake you've all seen. Yes, great for whiffing, but not too much else.....

ANOTHER TRIUMPH BY BRI! I love it! Can't wait to see those orange triangles on the wings........mmm...........   That cowl sits SO DAMN WELL on there, nice work my friend!

Shock and Awe, my friend !  That is going to be freakin' great !

Leigh

Man you are the king of the clunky prop jobs. I love it  Especially changing the engine.

And good old Y O G A the first kit I ever built.

I invite all and any criticism, except about Eric The Dog, it's not his fault he's stupid

Got most of the paintwork done. It's still just resting on the floats and the canopy is just sitting on it too. I need to let the paint fully cure before I attach the floats and canopy and do the final detail work. 1st of 3 pics.

I would've had this up last night, but while painting the gray undersides, I had a lot of mishaps and ended up having to do some major retouching tonight. I used ModelMasters Euro Green and Dark Earth for the uppers and Testor's Light Gull Gray for the lowers. 2nd of 3 new pics.

I'm hoping to have the P-36 SurfHawk completed this weekend. All that's left is some final detail work and then decals. Of course, there will be a little backstory too. 3rd of 3 new pics.

Great stuff Bri! Fanfeckintastic, I love it!

Hey, here's an idea - track down an Airfix F4U, that way you can do your Zac-inspired  ^_^  build AND do another one for the GB! How's that sound? Brilliant or what?

OOh, that is a dead cert for giving a jmn a heart seizure !  Wonderful job.
