Here's something I finished recently - a RAAF X-Wing:

Was going to accurise the AMT kit but I realised the amount of effort needed was way more than I could be bothered with, so I went the Whif route instead.

You can see more pics of it on my webpage and for those of you who have been there before, here's my modelling club gallery page. for my serious and not so serious models.

Love it!!

Now you just need a backstory with a war in southeast Asia so your X-Wing can mix it up with some Thai Fighters!  :D
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

It looks great!  However I would find it more plausible if you would have used the fighter that the "clones" used in Episode 3 that was supposed to be the forerunner of the X-wing.  Especially if you used the Battle of Britain paint scheme for the Hawker Hurricane on those!

Sigh...

That's the ARC-170 and it is truly one butt ugly design. Double ugly. I mean really, really ugly. Did I say it was ugly?  :D

Ugly, but functional. Have you not flown one on Star Wars: Battlefront II? Not the most aile of aircraft, but with a very big punch! :P

Thai fighters!   Don't forget about the Thai bombers that the X-Wing'll have to shoot down. :P

MGP, great model! Have you seen Alvis' RCAF version? Veeery interesting. I'd love to see one in F-111 camo!   Beautiful!

Did I say I liked your model? Cos I did. And still do.

Very nice model
For the few words of backstory on your home page, I feel puzzled: if you would have said "today, in 2096, Australia is becoming a space superpower" I would have understood, but you are speaking of an other galaxy... Would there be an Australia in another galaxy? With a RAAF and Kangaroo roundels as here? Maybe this is not far far away but a parallel universe, both very far (impossible to reach) and very near (on our own planet)... No? :P
[the word "realistic" hurts my heart...]

Yeah, it's much more plausible that Australia would use those instead of X-Wings.

Maybe it is just me, but for some very odd reason the ARC-170 kind of reminds me of the Boulton Paul Defiant.  I have no idea why! B)

The guy who designed the ARC-170 said he was inspired by various World War II aircraft with all the crew seated under one long continuous canopy, so that's not too off-base.  Personally, I thought he was going for the TBF Avenger look, but the Defiant fits as well.  According to the Star Wars Databank, the name comes from the label for the concept art which spawned the design: ART-170.  The script for Ep III simply called them "clone fighters".

This piece of art was included in the Databank entry, one of those "road not taken" designs.  It would be harder to pull off as a model, but it looks pretty cool.

I really like the ARC-170...its like the A-10 so ugly its cute. In fact it was one of the first designs from the 3rd prequel that I saw and loved in instantly...
Try not. Do. Or do not. There is no try.
