In addition to flying what ifs, i'm also fond of armour what ifs.

I have one scenario set between 1919 and 1939 where Germany, Japan and Russia all equip nationalist forces in colonial states for coups and general unrest (similar to Vietnam, etc).  Result is pre WW2 stuff basically with Brits and Yanks as the opposing forces.

Belated Welcome to you Mav.

Sounds like some interesting ideas.  Got anything to use for them or will you have to kitbash (saw you like 35th scale).

A bit late here, but welcome to our insanity, Mav.  To throw out a basic idea, how about developments of the reduced height/size turret used on the US T92 experimental light tank?

I remember seeing an AA Gatling gun (Vigilante) at a fort Aberdeen that had a 37mm calaber.  off topic, but not sure if anyone could give pictures or info, or what it would take to make a 40mm bofors gatling.  would make the GAU-8 come up short.

My pre WW2 would use USSR T-28s & T-35s along with all the East European Light tanks, German Neubaufahrzeugs, American Christies and other light tanks, and UK pre war stuff too, Matilda Mk I, Churchill Mk I and the Vickers export tanks.  Most of these are available in 35th, some unfortunately only as resin so cost will be 'interesting' to say the least.

Thanks once again to all for your greetings

Interesting idea's Maverick (wellcome btw)

I have a similar idea for a balkan War III which keeps the European's from a general war as they can intervene on their chosen sides rather like in the Spanish Civil War.

I know what you mean about those resin 1/35 kits having interesting prices - saw a really nice build late WWI German design at a show (think German Whippet) but then was told the price and how basic a kit it was and thought I'm not that insane !

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Radish

I like all those wacky armoured cars.
I reckon a lot of fun could be had with vintage car kits and some Airfix multi-pose troops with the spare equipmant they provide.

John Lester of Starship Modeler fame built this example of a Bolivian tankette as a "Model in a Month" entry in 2003.

Bolivian Walking Tank

The tank depicted was a participant in the Gran Chaco war, and is armed with a Tesla-coil.

Yep, a tank destroyer with twin 120mm Rheinmetall cannons. Now that is some firepower!
I remember that one - I always thought it had twin 90mm guns though.

If you want some information for possible armour what-if, try tankhistory.com.

Much interesting thread, I´m currently working on a modified What If SpaPz 2 Luchs, the idea it´s to depict a version of it in the idea of a WWII M-20 Scout Car, like a export version of the Luchs (without 20mm turret)

cheers

PS: That Bolivian tankette looks awsome!

General Zod

In the new issue of Fine Scale Modeler, there's an article about a guy who built up three Dragon E-100 kits.  One of them he converted into a Flakpanzer with a turret mounting twin 88mm guns.

General Zod,

That Quad 20mm is certainly an odd looking one.
