Hi guys,

There I was building the Trumpeter Me 262 for a local comp, time running out and hope fading. Bottom line, I didn't get it finished in time. :(

It is now several months later and it sits gathering dust. The reason?

Advanced Modeller Syndrome! (AMS) :(  :dum:

By trying to get the "real world" Nazi scheme correct, you know, trying to judge WWII black and white photographs, check aftermarket decal sheets with the photos to see if they got it right, blah, blah, blah....

End result. I lost interest, got bored with the whole thing and dumped it on the pile.

Then! I got the bright idea of doing a "What if" instead! :P

Here are the rough schemes I thought-up............

Now the problem is.......................which one?    :dum:

What do you guys think?

Cheers

Richard.

Very cool! Top right scheme with wire mesh FOD guards on the engines for African ops.

I'm going to disagree with all Y'all and say go with the one on the bottom right red 777. Though I would switch nationalities, the lime green for the national markings just doesn't go with the other greens in the scheme.

Black 3 looks the best for  Nth African and non-tropical schemes. I'll go with Wooksta here and say stripes are too modern. Blotches and spots would be the way I'd go personally.

Wooksta is definitely correct about the Nazi racial aspect as well. Didn't one of the Sth African far right groups use a modified swastika that had three arms?  That would be perfect for a tail marking.

QuoteI'm going to be even more awkward and say none of them.  Not because they're not good - the artwork is excellent - but because the schemes are too modern.  In any case, I doubt the Me 262 would have lasted beyond 1955.

There's also the racial aspect to consider.  Hitler wouldn't shake hands with Jessie Owens, so I can't imagine the Nazis selling their hi tech weapons to Black governments.  Using them against the blacks, yes, selling them?  No way.

Spanish, Italian or German operating in Africa, yes, possibly South Afrikan after an SS backed Boer coup d'etat.  Vichy French or Belgian Nazis in the Congo would be other alternates.
Hi Wooksta,

My rational for these schemes was that WWII ended as in real life, however there were more operational 262's available at the end of the war than actually was the case. After Russia, England and the Americans had taken what they wanted the rest were sold off as scrap.

A South African businessman bought a dozen of them and spare parts, fixed them-up and then rented them out to any regime that could put them to use for a while. They would change colour schemes as and when needed, depending on who operated them.

As for the schemes being too modern, well, since this was a non-military organisation there were no rules and regulations as to what scheme could or couldn't be used, so a lot of practicality and imagination went into camouflaging them

Cheers

Richard.

They certainly would grace any table!

Thinking of a Ki-262 now....already done one in "blues" but a jungle scheme would be terrific too.
