The Wooksta!

Simon's thoughts on a V bomber Lanc in another thread and my replies of a more realistic nature made me dig out a box of Lancaster and Shackleton bits.  I've already started work on the back story in one of the recesses in my twisted imagination.

One of the traditional ways for modellers in the UK to build a Lincoln has been to take a Lancaster and cross kit it with the Frog Shackleton (the Shack had a Lincoln wing) and a lot of scratchbuilding.  These days, there's a few conversion kits available - well, maybe not the Paragon one, but that's another tale - that makes the job a little easier.  However, I like tradition, and as I only have one Lincoln conversion, a Shackleton wing it is.

I'd picked up a Lancastrian conversion a while back - well, it was cheap - but I can't remember what I wanted it for, so out that came.  So did the Grand Slam Lancaster and a set of Paragon Merlin 85s (I bought two sets to do a pair of Lancaster 6s, but the other set I'll drop into rubber for... er, personal use).  I also robbed teh Paragon Lincoln conversion of the fuselage plug and the rudders.  Again, these will fall into rubber as I want to do a proper Lincoln at some stage.  Well, maybe one against the Luftwaffe '46.  Or possibly a Tigerforce one.

Anyway, here's a few pics of the thing taped up.

Overview.  The fuselage has yet to be chopped.  Mainly as I haven't copied the plug yet.

Interested to see how this developes Lee as I have an Airfix Lancaster and a Frog/Revell Shackleton sitting about.

Wooksta I'm going to enjoy watching this one! I've thoroughly enjoyed viewing your mock-ups and I'm waiting in anticipation of more updates! This will be one worth keeping an eye out for. Thanks for sharing it with us.

And a lot of swearing. But nothing that the anticipation of seeing it done won't cure, hmmm?  ;)

That is a serious undertaking you got going-on. If I wore a hat I'd take it off. So lemme see if I got the recipe straight here.....

An extended Lancaster/Lancastrian fuselage, but maybe with some elements of Shackleton.

Shackleton wings with Lincoln engines.

Odds and ends from all three types.....

So any chance of five bladed props or are you going for the contra-rotating look ?

I have this olle kit too...must do something with it...

Lee, could the wingroot section out of the Shack be used to extend the lancaster fuselage rather than use the Paragon piece?

Cheers

This looks like it's going to be great! Ever so slightly more plausible than mine too...

I love seeing your work in progress: gives me a better appreciation of all the steps and planning ahead that is required.  This is going to be one of those subjects that leaps out at the viewer from among the 239 FW-190's and Me-blah-blah-blahs at any given model show.

Outstanding!

This is going to be very, very cool. Exactly the type of thing Chadwick would have gone on to design if somebody hadn't bolted the ailerons on his Tudor upside down.
