Airfix GB Entry #3

Civilian "flying touring sedan" instead of divebomber.
Modifications to include:
- straighten its characterstic bent wing (no, I don't have anything against gullwings, really, I don't);
- go with a true T-Tail  (huh, what?  why? does he have some kind of fetish?);
- change to turboprop and fix that ugly nose;
- go to tricycle landing gear;
- modernize landing gear (Brian, do you want the leftover spats?);
- doubt there's sufficient width to have side-by-side seating but I'll likely replace the old, ugly canopy with a nice blown, two-seater version from something.

Although, I have been toying with the idea of moving the wing up to the top of the cabin, anyhow (Cessna style).

Did I mention that we have a 55-day plant turnaround b/w now and the GB deadline in June?  I'll be working 6 twelve-hour days per week.

:wacko:

So Barry..........another tourer from Snell Aviation? Is this one the S-18 or S-20? ^_^ Sigh, it's all been done before  ;) .

Great stuff, I know if you can't pull this off no-one can! And best of luck with the -263 and the other watchamajigger!

Go for gold Baz! B)

Yeah, but mine will be BLUE, no wait-----ahhhhhh.

I'LL have winglets on mine.  Hmmmm....

I'll do a 1:72 figure of Alison to go with it?

First cuts.  Let the madness begin.  Have reshaped parts of the nose, ground off the tailplane mounts, filed off the guns, removed pylons, cut wings.

All in about 15 minutes, not bad!   ^_^

But I'm starting to wonder: is there such a thing as a civilian turboprop in this kind of size range or would a small touring turboprop be cost-prohibitive?

Don't be silly mate! If it's cheap enough for a Belgian asphalt magnate or a British pop star, then it most definitely ain't cost-prohibitive!

Jeez, aircraft designers these days, always thinking with their wallets  :rolleyes: !

C'mon Baz, you can do it!

And don't forget the Snell Aviation house colours!

Oh yes, please Mr Howling Mouse! I love spats! I think this is a great concept and I know I'll enjoy watching the build progress. Yet anther Man-Ho idea that has me smacking my forehead and muttering "Why didn't I think of that?!" Funny you mentioned it not having a gull wing Baz. I replaced mine, but I have plans to use it on an F-4U biplane (with spats!).

This is gonna be one for the Whiff Hall of Fame. I can just feel it!

Brian da Basher

P.S. When I saw "toothless Stuka" my first thought was my lack of progress on those doggone rudder stripes!

First mock-up with tape.  Holy keeerap but it does look awfully similar to Zac's "Snell" creation!  What was your base kit for Alison's airplane, Zac?

Maybe this should end up as a "Zac-Air" special (NZ-licensed built Snell Aeronautical Industries design) or vice-versa?

I've already chosen and glued together the canopy.  Now, fitting it to the fuselage will be fun, fun, fun, I'm sure.

Have to scratchbuild a tail plane as I didn't like anything out of the box.

Go for it Baz! But one minor niggle - Yates Aviation are the NZ rights-holders for Snell's designs.  :rolleyes: Sheesh, aircraft designers.......

And you wouldn't believe me if I told you mate.

It was the Airfix CHIPMUNK!!!

Wow Mr Howling Mouse that looks every bit the winner! Might I reccomend discarded blisterpack material from some batteries as a way to close that gap at the rear of the canopy?

I wonder if the code NZ-ZAC is taken? Perhaps the folks at Yates Aviation™ will work with you on licensing. I know someone very highly placed in that organization that can help.

Brian da Basher

P.S. You could always revers that canopy to make it fit.

Cool that you mention blisterpack as that is exactly what I'm using for a windscreen for my biplane build.

Yeah, you heard it: I have a Biplane on the go, too!

A biplane Mr Howling Mouse? Wow now I am seriously impressed! I can't wait to see it!

BlackOps

Barry, add some length to those wings and round out the nose and you'd have a pretty neat glider.

it would look nice as a mtuka with retractable landing gear. (mtuka = no gullwing.)

Fuselage interiors on the way.  Again, hat's off to those of you who work exclusively in 1:72 scale!

Some homemade greeblies for the side wall.
