One site that I forgot to mention as having a lot of "Never-Were" ships was our friend CanisD's site.  A lot of WWI and WWII ships in there.  He's got some really cool stuff!

QuoteA good one for all you battlewagon fans would be a Lexington-class battlecruiser over the course of her service life- suppose the Lexington wasn't converted during construction to a carrier and went into service as a battlecruiser and was subsequently upgraded through the Second World War.
If you're willing to spend the money, Imperial Hobby Productions made a resin kit of the Lexington BCs. It's expensive, but a good quality kit from what I've heard.

If you really have money to spare, there is supposed to be a 1/350 resin kit coming out as well. As my parents live in Saratoga, I'm trying to win a lottery so I can buy and build this kit for them to display on the mantle.

In want of hobby space!  The kitchen table is never stable.  Still managing to get some building done.

Hi folks,

Here are some more pics to get your juices flowing on the Naval What-if front:

Greg, some more great designs, thanks for finding all of these and sharing :)

I picked up two 1/350 Trumpeter Sovremenny class destroyers to use as a base for a dual hull carrier. I usually don't spent that much for something I'm going to butcher but these are really nice and have some great parts.

Of course I have to really think about this one before I start - not my usual method  :dum:  but all of these pics have inspired me!

Unfortunately these are the only navy kits beside my Vosper Patrol boat (which I already have committed to a project  :ar:  so I will be doing a bunch from scratch I think.

They look like the Yanmar Endeavour on steroids.

"The Yanmar/Baltek "Endeavour" was designed for adventurer Steve Shidler of San Francisco, CA. His design requirements included exceptional range, 2700 miles powered with two 27 h.p. outboards, along with the ability to fit into a shipping container.
"Endeavour's" mission to make a record 4443 nautical mile run from San Francisco, CA to Honolulu, Hawaii to Sydney, Australia was accomplished in 1989 with an average speed of 8.93 knots at 4.8 nautical miles per (US) gallon."

I saw her in Hawaii in the early 90s. The Yanmar Diesel outboards were pretty cool.

Jon,

These concepts are by a company called BGV International Ltd.  Here is their website.

I found this site (from Warships1) yesterday.  It's got a few designs I'd heard about, but never actually seen before (like the Harrier Carrier alternative to the Invincibles, as well as a proposed Japanese CVH from the 70's).

B777LR

First some of the new USN San antonio ships:

Then a italian carrier

And finally some british ships

Speaking of the CVF designs, does anyone produce a kit yet - might make a nice what-if .  Say something like an Australian replacement for the Invincible that the RAN purchased in the '80s.

Has the design been finzalized yet?

QuoteHas the design been finzalized yet?
nope but now the french have teamed up with us on the carrier project, we should soon start to see some movement on the project.
I always hope for the best.
Unfortunately,
experience has taught me to expect the worst.

So that's what the HMCS Red Green looks like.

On the other hand, what-if the end of the cold war did really result in the ability to get rid of all major weapons systems like some wrongly prophesised at the time:
