I like the CG trimaran dealie, looks like the Sith ship from Star Wars.

And it clearly needs honkin' huge turbofans, it looks like it could fly.

Just look at the US navy. They fly teeny wheeny converted E2s. The candian navy just use a single plane able of delivering the whole cargo for a month in one flight!

hi folks,

Here's another from the real world - the Lockheed Covert High-speed Attack and Reconnaissance Craft (CHARC) - pronounced 'shark':

By the way, I think the last pic has confused the High and Low Speed Configurations.

I think the designers confused Star Wars/Robotech with reality.  :dum:

Maybe not. I'm no hydrodynamicist, but the illustrated slow speed configuration would raise the centre of gravity higher out of the water, meaning if you hit something, or there is some other reason for a major delta-v, it's going to be a might tippy, especially in the pitch axis, or both the pitch and yaw axes if one pontoon suddenly changes speed. That could put a lot of stress on the structure.

That CHARC looks like a GI Joe toy.

Someone has been Reading the Star wars essential guide to Ship and Vehicles. That looks almost identical to the KDY A9 Vigalance starfighter.....

Interesting concept- sort of like Legos. B)

What happens to this construct when the weather goes foul?

The Brit's built that Seabase in 1944 - called it Mullberry ! What goes around, comes around I suppose.

Kinda like Mountbattens plan to build "Iceberg" Carriers
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

As far as I have investigated, it seems that the connections are hinged, and the entire assembly is constantly kept in the best position to counteract or diminish the sea state action. Of course, there will sea states in which air operations will not be possible, except maybe from an individual platform.
