That's only be around 340 ft long full size, and that's pretty short for a carrier. Perhaps it's half that scale or so?
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage

I've recommended John Farley's 'A View from the HOVER' till I'm blue in the face, but if you guys don't read it.....

Kit, can you PM me all the details about the book such as ISBN number, I have been given a book voucher by my girl friend for my birthday (today) so I thought this book would be a good posible purchase.

Just a note of interest regarding the French Carrier ambitions:-

http://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/french-white-paper-sets-equipment-course-for-2025-385408/

Looks like PA2 has now been formally canned from the French project list and they are not getting a 2nd carrier to complement CdG in the next 10 years.

I've got a whiffing idea on using a jeep carrier as a hospital ship, US Navy circa 1945-46 vs Japan, to support Operation Downfall. It would have some fixed-wing types (including amphibians) and helicopters to fetch and bring back the casualties. Being a hospital ship, it would have to be unarmed.

Any thoughts?
Whatever.

NARSES2

That sounds a good idea especially with the early helicopters. It's something that would have been sorely needed if Downfall had gone ahead and something that may well have happened.

Converted from an ex N Atlantic convoy escort carrier perhaps ?
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Italeri truck accessories 2 has one of the truck mounted cranes that might be able to kit bashed.

That truck picture looked like a train at first glance . Planes on a train. Battleship replaced by aircraft carrier, rail gun replaced by train carrier.

I would really like to take my what-ifry to a different level and seeking some advice on the aircraft carrier. What I am contemplating is a very large vessel, trimaran in principle, the two outriggers being the size of a modern super-carrier; the main hull/flightdeck being immense (for reasons to be disclosed at a later date ;D). I need to know:

a) could this be feasible?
b) forgetting other considerations (this is a fantasy whiff) are modern naval vessels designed around the limitations of the Suez and Panama canals in terms of draught and width.

Get on board as this could be fun.....

Survivability is another big requirement; but the Nimitz-class are classified as Post Panamax-[url]

The Panama canal is being rebuilt and widened to take larger vessels.

Whether you need to get through the Panama Canal or not is basically a function of where you're starting from and where you want to go. For instance, if you're the Japanese navy, it's 1936 and you anticipate fighting the Americans across the Pacific and/or the British in the Indian Ocean, then the Panama canal is pretty much irrelevent to you. On the other hand, if you're the US Navy and you anticipate having to fight the Japanese in the Pacific and/or the Germans in the Atlantic, then the ability to move forces from one theatre to the other as quickly as possible is critically important.

You could build it, sure, but it'll be monstrously expensive, very difficult to look after (requiring an enormous, deep, and expensive dry dock to be built somewhere), have some major navigation restrictions and be an enormously tempting target (as you can only have one!).

So it would very much depend what it was for. ;D

Really, to satisfy my feverish imagination. I think the idea would be one per ocean, with standard carriers as a screen. A bit like the lunacy of a super star destroyer with a screen of star destroyers. My world is a different place...its strife Jim, but not as we know it ;D I'm working on some ideas, both historical, biological and geographical. A bit like Dune but on Earth. Australia will feature as a biological reserve for Dinosaurs, but the mineral resources are mined under a strict contract...like CHOAM. Pirate activity, Gulf Oil etc all play a part.......
