4 February 2014-Tokyo (AP)
Japanese officials today confirmed the sale of 25 F-2 fighter aircraft to the Royal New Zealand Air Force. The Japanese aircraft, based on the American F-16, have been in storage since Japan took delivery of its first F-22J in 2011. Defense officials in New Zealand refused to comment on the arms deal. Analysts say the sale, reportedly at a steep discount, is but the latest in a series of Asian arms transfers that has followed the collapse of the Indonesian government and the rise of the Eastern Caliphate.

The F-2 deal comes as Caliphate naval and air units continue to expand their patrols into the Pacific and Indian Oceans. Australian Defense Minister Thomas Underhill last week described the Caliphate's ongoing military exercise in the Straits of Malacca as "a disturbing development in light of the importance of Malacca to international shipping and trade." Caliphate officials have not commented on Underhill's remarks.

Chris, what 'D' word??
If you love, love without reservation; If you fight, fight without fear - THAT is the way of the warrior

22 August 2014- Auckland (AP)

New Zealand today took delivery of 10 advanced F-2 fighters in a ceremony at an air base outside Auckland. New Zealand purchased the aircraft from Japan in a deal announced last winter. Senior New Zealand defense officials say they hope to take delivery of the remaining 15 aircraft by next spring.

The arrival of the F-2s marks the reformation of the Royal New Zealand Air Force's 75 Squadron, a unit that traces it roots to the Second World War, and which was disbanded by the Labour Government in 2001. US and Australian officials expressed hope that the F-2 purchase will allow Auckland to play a larger role in the defense of the region.

Lovely kit, isn't it?

Interesting scenario, seeing as Japan cannot sell any offensive arms due to the Postwar Constitution. But this being what-if anything can change, especially since we're giving NZ an offensive air arm again here.

What're you planning to hang underneath the "Super" Viper?

Much can change in a few years...

Probably arming it with AMRAAMs and AIM-9Xs. I've got my eye on a pair of SLAMs as well.
